Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania – Temperatures will plunge well below freezing overnight across the Poconos, bringing a hard freeze that could damage plumbing, kill sensitive plants, and create slick travel conditions through the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday for Carbon and Monroe counties. Forecasters warn temperatures could fall as low as 25 degrees by daybreak, with even colder conditions possible in sheltered valleys.

Communities including Stroudsburg and Jim Thorpe will see the most prolonged freezing conditions, with frost forming rapidly overnight. Elevated roadways such as I-80 and Route 209 may develop patchy frost on bridges and overpasses before sunrise, increasing the risk of slick spots for early drivers.

The cold poses a significant risk to early-season vegetation and outdoor systems. Residents should cover or bring in plants, shut off and drain outdoor water lines, and insulate exposed pipes. Gardeners and growers in higher elevations face the greatest risk of crop loss.

Looking ahead, a Freeze Watch remains in effect for late Monday night into Tuesday morning, when temperatures could drop as low as 19 degrees. Additional alerts are likely if that colder air materializes.
