Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Sunshine will dominate Pittsburgh skies Wednesday, but residents should prepare now for a stormy shift starting Thursday afternoon. A strong round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move in after 2 p.m. Thursday, bringing heavy rain and possible flash flooding by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service, the first showers could begin early Thursday, increasing in coverage after 2 p.m. Thunderstorms may continue into Thursday night and again Friday, with rain chances peaking at 70% by Friday night. Some storms may include frequent lightning, gusty winds, and downpours — especially hazardous for drivers on I-376, Route 28, and other major Allegheny County roads.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid low-lying areas during periods of heavy rain. Charge mobile devices and prepare for possible power outages. Outdoor plans for Thursday evening through Saturday morning may need to be rescheduled due to wet and potentially stormy conditions.

After a hot and sunny Wednesday with a high of 89°F, clouds will return Thursday with a high near 85°F before a cooler weekend arrives. Saturday remains unsettled, with a 40% chance of storms and temperatures in the upper 70s.

More rain is likely into Sunday and Monday, with a continued pattern of afternoon and evening storms. Another half-inch to one inch of rain could accumulate over the period.

⚠️ Storms likely Thursday afternoon through Friday night; monitor alerts and travel with caution.
