Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Hazy skies and surging heat will dominate the weather across western Pennsylvania on Tuesday, June 3, as summer arrives early in force.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, wildfire smoke drifting from Canada may reduce visibility and impact air quality by Tuesday afternoon. Combined with rising heat—reaching up to 89°F in the city—the region faces increasing risks of heat-related illness, especially in densely populated areas along the I-376 corridor.
Residents in Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, and Westmoreland counties should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, are urged to monitor airnow.gov and remain indoors if air quality alerts are issued.
Tuesday will begin mostly sunny, with widespread haze developing after 2 p.m. Light south winds around 5–7 mph will do little to disperse smoke. Skies clear again Tuesday night, with lows around 64°F.
By Wednesday, temperatures climb further into the upper 80s. The dry stretch breaks Thursday, when showers and possibly thunderstorms return with a 50% chance of rain and slightly cooler highs near 85°F.
More organized rain is expected Friday, with a 70% chance of showers and storms in the afternoon.
