New Castle, DE – A pedestrian died Monday night after being struck by a tractor-trailer on I-95 in New Castle, Delaware. The crash happened around 9:03 p.m., causing an extended road closure and traffic delays.
According to Delaware State Police, a 49-year-old Newark man was crossing northbound I-95 from the left shoulder, attempting to reach the east side of the highway near Churchmans Road. A white Freightliner truck traveling in the right lane struck him as he crossed into its path. Troopers pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 52-year-old from Milford, Delaware, was not injured in the collision. Authorities closed the highway for approximately 2.5 hours for investigation and scene clearance.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and requests any witnesses to contact them. The Delaware Victim Center also offers support for those impacted.
