Williamson County, IL – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle late Thursday on Lake of Egypt Road. Deputies responded to the scene at 11:34 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian accident.
Authorities identified the victim as 45-year-old Jana M. Lence of Herrin. Lence was attempting to cross the road when a passing motorist struck her. Emergency responders transported her to a hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old juvenile, was heading home from work. According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, no signs of impairment were observed. The driver, with parental consent, underwent voluntary drug and alcohol testing at a local hospital.
The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team has been called in to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing. Further inquiries should be directed to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
No charges have been filed, and officials continue to gather more information.
