Palos Park, IL — The Palos Park Police Department is urging residents to stay vigilant against scammers posing as FBI agents. These impersonators falsely claim to represent federal agencies, contacting victims by phone, text, or messaging apps. They attempt to extract personal information or money through threats of arrest or freezing Social Security numbers.

According to the police, the scammers are using fear tactics, telling individuals that their Social Security numbers could be at risk. They may even ask for remote access to computers, claiming they need help to catch a criminal.

Palos Park authorities are advising residents to remain cautious and avoid sharing sensitive information such as Social Security numbers or credit card details with unknown callers. Police also stress the importance of not allowing scammers access to computers or phones.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call or email should report it immediately. Complaints can be filed with the Federal Trade Commission at 877-FTC-HELP or the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
