Pendleton, Oregon – Strong winds are sweeping across much of eastern Oregon today, with gusts topping 40 mph in some areas as the region transitions between weather systems.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, gusty conditions will persist through Thursday night, particularly in the Columbia River Gorge, Kittitas Valley, and parts of the Columbia Highlands. Winds are expected to peak above 40 mph at times, creating hazardous travel conditions—especially for high-profile vehicles on exposed roadways like I-84 and US-97.
Communities including The Dalles, Hermiston, and Ellensburg should prepare for reduced visibility and potential tree limb damage. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, limit unnecessary travel, and be alert for sudden wind shifts.
While no major precipitation is expected today, these winds mark a transition into a warmer and more stable weather pattern for the first half of the weekend. This blustery spell follows a cooler week, and residents should expect calmer conditions by Friday evening.
Wind advisories remain in effect for much of north-central Oregon and south-central Washington through tonight. More updates will be issued if conditions intensify.
