Milwaukee, Wis. – Strong storms could sweep through Wisconsin Friday afternoon into the evening, bringing 45 mph wind gusts, penny-size hail, and the potential for reduced air quality due to incoming wildfire smoke.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, though most will be brief. The primary threat begins Friday between 2 and 4 p.m. as a backdoor cold front slides south-southwest across the state, increasing the chance for more widespread storms.

Cities like Madison, Milwaukee, and Kenosha could see the strongest impacts between 6 and 10 p.m., with the heaviest activity expected to peak from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT. Storms may contain small hail and damaging winds. Visibility may also drop due to Canadian wildfire smoke moving into the area.

Drivers are urged to slow down during downpours and avoid travel during peak storm hours if possible. Secure loose outdoor items and have a way to receive warnings. Conditions remain uncertain, and any stronger storm could quickly intensify.

Storm chances may persist through Friday night, with additional updates expected as confidence in timing and severity improves.
