The Dalles, Oregon – Damaging winds could roar through the Columbia River Gorge Saturday afternoon, bringing down trees, cutting power, and creating hazardous travel from The Dalles to White Salmon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a High Wind Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday for the Eastern Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and Washington. Winds from the west could reach sustained speeds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.
Cities including Arlington, The Dalles, and White Salmon are in the path of this potential wind event. Drivers of high-profile vehicles, especially along I-84 and WA-14, should prepare for challenging conditions. Downed lines and fallen trees may lead to scattered power outages throughout the region.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices ahead of time, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind hours. This system could be one of the stronger wind events of late spring, with local impacts similar to last year’s mid-June gusts.
The High Wind Watch remains in effect through Saturday evening. Further updates and warnings may follow as conditions develop.
