Boise, Idaho – Record-breaking heat could grip parts of southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon this weekend, with temperatures surging past 100°F by Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon MDT (11 a.m. PDT) to 7 p.m. MDT (6 p.m. PDT) Saturday, impacting both sides of the border. Cities including Boise, Nampa, Twin Falls, Ontario, and Baker may see highs between 95 and 102°F, with lower valleys at greatest risk.
Communities in the Lower and Upper Treasure Valleys, Western Magic Valley, and counties like Harney, Malheur, and Baker are urged to limit outdoor activity, hydrate regularly, and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Outdoor workers should plan for frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned areas.
Health officials warn of increased risk for heat exhaustion or stroke, especially among the elderly, children, and pets. Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle. Wear light, breathable clothing and reschedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening hours.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly by Sunday, but residents should monitor updates as more advisories may follow.
