Dayville, OR – A late-night crash involving an allegedly impaired driver caused major damage to the Dayville Post Office, but no injuries were reported, according to authorities.
According to Oregon State Police, troopers responded around 10 p.m. Friday to a crash at the post office located on U.S. Highway 26. Authorities say the driver of an SUV left the roadway, drove over a sidewalk, and crashed through the building’s entrance ramp and deck before stopping at the front door.
Witnesses told officers the driver appeared to be trying to free the vehicle from the wreckage before they persuaded the individual to shut the vehicle off. Troopers on scene reported multiple signs of impairment, and the driver refused to complete field sobriety tests.
Police later obtained a search warrant for a blood alcohol content test, which reportedly revealed a BAC of .11%—more than three hours after the crash occurred.
The suspect was arrested for DUII, reckless driving, and criminal mischief in the second degree. The driver was taken to the Grant County Jail.
Oregon State Police reminded the public that impaired driving remains a serious threat to roadway safety and encouraged anyone witnessing dangerous driving behavior to call 911 or *OSP (*677).
