Tulsa, Oklahoma — Thunderstorms will develop across northeast Oklahoma Monday night, bringing lightning, brief heavy rain and gusty winds that could disrupt overnight travel and early Tuesday commutes from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storm chances increase after 7 p.m. Monday, with the most concentrated activity expected between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. across Tulsa, Bartlesville, Miami, Muskogee and nearby northwest Arkansas including Fayetteville and Fort Smith.

While severe weather risk remains low, storms may produce wind gusts strong enough to knock small debris into roadways and create sudden visibility drops during heavier downpours. Along I-44, U.S. 69 and U.S. 412, drivers could encounter slick pavement and brief ponding in low-lying areas and underpasses, especially where drainage is poor.

This is part of a broader system approaching from the Plains, increasing instability overnight before a cold front moves through early Tuesday.

Residents should monitor forecasts, avoid driving through water-covered roads and move indoors during lightning. Secure loose outdoor items that could be blown by gusty winds.

The greatest impact window will occur between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., when storms are most likely to produce hazardous travel conditions and lightning risk.
