Norman, OK – A tornado watch is in effect for large portions of southern Oklahoma and northern Texas through midnight Saturday as conditions become increasingly favorable for severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, Tornado Watch 149 was issued at 6:45 p.m. CDT and remains active until 12:00 a.m. CDT. The alert includes 14 counties in Oklahoma—such as Atoka, Bryan, Choctaw, and Pontotoc—and eight counties in Texas, including Denton, Cooke, and Wise.

Residents in these areas are urged to monitor local alerts, ensure weather radios are functional, and have a safe shelter plan in place. The watch outlines the potential for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging wind gusts as storms move through the region overnight.

The watch extends across a corridor historically vulnerable to spring severe weather, highlighting the importance of early readiness. Drivers should avoid travel during storm activity, and residents should secure outdoor items and remain indoors during warnings.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor storm development. Updates will follow as the system evolves through early Sunday morning.
