Cleveland, Ohio – Lake-effect snow is ramping up across northern Ohio before sunrise Monday, coating highways and setting the stage for slick travel through both commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Summit and inland Ashtabula counties. An additional 2 to 4 inches is expected, bringing totals to 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible in the higher terrain of northern Geauga County and eastern Cuyahoga County. Northwest winds could gust up to 35 mph, blowing snow across roadways.

Interstate 90 from Lorain through Cleveland to Ashtabula, along with I-271 and I-77 near Akron, may see reduced visibility in heavier bursts. Erie and Huron counties, including Sandusky and Norwalk, remain under an advisory until 7 p.m. Monday for 1 to 3 additional inches.

Across the state line in northwest Pennsylvania, Crawford and northern Erie counties, including Erie and Meadville, are under an advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday for similar totals as bands intensify.

ODOT and PennDOT urge drivers to slow down, allow extra time and check OHGO or 511PA for live updates. Snow showers will gradually diminish late Monday night, but slick spots may linger into early Tuesday.
