Mifflin Township, OH – Two Mifflin Township police officers were shot during a traffic stop Wednesday evening, leaving one officer in critical condition and sparking a widespread manhunt for the suspect who fled the scene.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Mecca Drive and Perdue Avenue. Officers had initiated a traffic stop when the vehicle’s passenger exited and fled on foot. As officers pursued him, the suspect allegedly turned and opened fire, hitting both officers. Emergency personnel transported the officers to a local hospital for treatment.
The vehicle’s driver is cooperating with authorities, but the passenger—identified as 21-year-old Daveonte Dixon—remains at large. Dixon has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault.
“Our focus right now is on the recovery of our injured officers and bringing the individual responsible to justice,” said Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin. “We are asking anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
Local, state, and federal agencies have joined the search for Dixon. Law enforcement officials are urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity or sightings to authorities.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
