South Bend, IN – A South Bend mother was fatally shot 25 years ago this week, and now police are making a renewed push to find her killer.

Leah Bailey, 24, was caught in the crossfire of a shooting on Queen Street in South Bend on May 29, 2000. She was not involved in the altercation, police said, but was fatally struck by gunfire while a group of people were gathered in the area.

According to the South Bend Police Department, detectives are revisiting the long-unsolved case in partnership with Michiana Crime Stoppers, seeking any information that could lead to a break. The department emphasized that even tips from individuals who may have come forward in the past could now help reignite the investigation.

Cold Case detectives are asking anyone with knowledge of the events that night—or who knows who shot Leah Bailey—to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously by calling 574-288-STOP or visiting p3tips.com/203.

“If your tip leads to an arrest in this case, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500,” the department stated in a post on social media Tuesday.

Bailey was a young mother of two at the time of her death. Police say they hope the 25-year milestone will prompt renewed interest and help bring long-awaited justice to her family.
