Cleveland, OH – Residents across northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania are preparing for an extended period of extreme cold beginning Sunday night. Wind chills could plummet to -25°F, posing significant risks to safety and infrastructure.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold will last through Wednesday morning, with the worst conditions late Sunday into Monday. Temperatures combined with high winds could lead to frostbite on exposed skin in just 30 minutes. Frozen pipes, dead car batteries, and structure fires are among the potential challenges.

Officials advise dressing in layers, limiting outdoor exposure, and keeping pets indoors. Homeowners are urged to insulate pipes, keep faucets dripping, and ensure heaters are safely used. Improper use of generators or grills indoors could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, they warn.

The extreme cold may also impact vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those without adequate heating. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors and family.

The cold snap could extend beyond Wednesday, potentially keeping sub-zero wind chills in the area. Additional updates and advisories are expected as conditions evolve.
