Gray, ME – A freeze warning has been issued for parts of western Maine and northern New Hampshire, with sub-freezing temperatures expected overnight into Wednesday morning, May 13.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, the warning will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday across Southern Oxford County and Interior Cumberland Highlands in Maine, as well as Northern Carroll County in New Hampshire.
Forecasters say temperatures could drop as low as 30 degrees during the early morning hours, creating conditions that may damage sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing.
Communities impacted include Bethel, Norway, Fryeburg, Bridgton, Rumford, and Harrison in Maine, along with North Conway, Jackson, and Conway in New Hampshire. These areas, located near the White Mountains and within reach of the Portland, ME metro region, could see widespread frost formation.
According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions may kill crops and other tender plants if left unprotected. Residents with gardens or outdoor vegetation are urged to take precautions, such as covering plants or bringing them indoors where possible.
Officials also warn that exposed outdoor plumbing could be at risk if temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period.
Residents are encouraged to prepare ahead of time and monitor local forecasts for any updates as conditions develop overnight.
