Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota is set for an active weather weekend with severe storms and rising temperatures. Early Saturday morning, storms moving in from western Minnesota will continue tracking east into central Minnesota. According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, these storms are sub-severe but may produce wind gusts up to 50 mph and small hail.

The storms, as of 3:35 AM Saturday, have the potential to strengthen as they move east through the Northland. Residents are advised to stay alert for any changes in weather conditions as the day progresses.

Simultaneously, hot and humid conditions are expected throughout the weekend. The heat indices are predicted to climb into the mid-80s to mid-90s. Today, maximum heat index values could reach the upper 80s to mid-90s. Sunday’s temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid-80s to low 90s.

Heat index values suggest locations experiencing these storms today might see relief from the warmest afternoon temperatures. However, residents should still take precautions against the heat. The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day. Lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing is recommended, and pets and children should never be left unattended in vehicles.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast for Duluth indicates a high of 84°F on both Saturday and Sunday, with a slight chance of showers on Saturday. Monday is expected to see a high of 78°F with a 55% chance of rain. By Tuesday, temperatures will drop slightly to 72°F with sunny conditions continuing into Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the low to mid-70s.
