Gaylord, Michigan – Northern Michigan will enjoy another warm and dry summer day Friday before scattered showers and thunderstorms begin returning this weekend, although forecasters say neither Saturday nor Sunday is expected to be a washout.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, Friday will feature mostly sunny skies with afternoon highs ranging from 74 to 83 degrees and overnight lows dipping into the lower 50s to lower 60s. Comfortable conditions and dry weather will make for excellent travel, boating and outdoor recreation across the region.
The weather pattern becomes more unsettled Saturday as scattered showers and thunderstorms become possible. High temperatures will reach 77 to 85 degrees, with overnight lows between 58 and 67 degrees. While periods of rain are expected, there will also be extended stretches of dry weather across much of northern Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula.
On Sunday, highs climb into the 78 to 88-degree range with additional afternoon and evening shower and thunderstorm chances. Communities including Gaylord, Traverse City, Petoskey, Alpena, Cadillac and Grayling could see brief downpours and lightning, but widespread, all-day rainfall is not anticipated.
Residents with weekend camping, hiking or beach plans should monitor the forecast for changing conditions and move indoors if thunderstorms approach. Lightning can develop quickly even during otherwise pleasant summer afternoons.
