Michigan – Water is already covering low-lying roads across northern Michigan, and conditions could worsen quickly as rivers continue to rise through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Flood Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for multiple counties including Otsego, Crawford, and Alpena. Between 1 and 7 inches of recent rainfall combined with snowmelt has pushed rivers and streams higher, with flooding ongoing near lakes, rivers, and culverts .

Gaylord starts the day with patchy fog before skies clear briefly and temperatures climb near 69°F. That break won’t last long. Showers and thunderstorms develop tonight, with rain chances up to 80%. Additional rainfall could aggravate already saturated ground, increasing the risk of standing water on roads and further river rises.

Drivers along M-32 and I-75 should remain alert for water-covered roads, especially in low-lying areas. Never attempt to drive through flooded sections, as conditions can change rapidly.

Saturday brings another shift, with rain transitioning to scattered snow showers as colder air moves in. Temperatures fall into the 30s during the day and plunge to around 25°F Saturday night, raising the risk of icy spots where water remains.

Flooding may persist into Sunday even as skies begin to clear, with highs only in the low 30s. A gradual improvement is expected early next week, though rivers may take several days to fully recede.
