Chicago, IL – A limited thunderstorm risk is in place across parts of the Chicago region today, with the best chances staying south of Interstate 80 through the afternoon and early evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, isolated thunderstorms may develop from mid to late afternoon, primarily impacting areas closer to central Illinois and northwest Indiana. The overall risk remains low, with no widespread severe weather expected. Most of northern Illinois, including downtown Chicago, will see partly sunny skies with highs near the low 60s.

Any storms that do form are expected to move east at around 40 mph and remain scattered in nature, limiting overall impacts for commuters and outdoor plans. Forecasters note that conditions will stay relatively calm overnight, with no need for storm spotter activation.

Saturday brings a shift to warmer and breezier conditions, with highs climbing into the 70s. A slight chance of light showers returns late in the day, but much of the region will remain dry. By Sunday and Monday, temperatures trend cooler again, especially near Lake Michigan, with sunshine dominating much of the period.

The next more organized chance for rain arrives Tuesday, when showers are likely across the broader Chicago metro area. This system could bring more widespread coverage compared to today’s isolated activity.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates, especially if traveling south of the city later today or planning ahead for early next week’s rain chances.
