Raleigh, NC – North Carolina is set to experience significant rainfall and thunderstorms this week, with the heaviest precipitation anticipated midweek. Residents are advised to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Raleigh, scattered afternoon showers and storms are expected today, increasing in coverage by Wednesday and Thursday. A slow-moving cold front, combined with a moist and unstable airmass, will bring numerous showers and storms each day through Friday. The probability of precipitation reaches up to 90% in many areas during this period.

The main threat through Friday will be excessive rain and potential flooding, especially in urban areas. Isolated to scattered flash flooding is possible, posing risks to both property and transportation. A marginal threat of severe storms exists today, primarily affecting areas east of the Triangle, with damaging winds being the primary concern.

The weekend will see a trend towards drier conditions, particularly by Sunday, as the front moves south. Temperatures throughout the week are expected to remain near or slightly below normal, with highs mostly in the 80s. Nighttime lows will generally be in the low to mid-70s.
