Raleigh, NC – Central North Carolina residents are urged to prepare for continued freezing temperatures today and through the weekend, with lows tonight expected to dip into the teens. Weather officials warn of hazardous conditions, including icy patches on roads and a prolonged period of sub-freezing temperatures into next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, Wednesday will remain sunny with highs near 38°F. Winds from the north at 5 to 10 mph will create wind chills as low as 15°F. Tonight, clear skies will bring a low around 20°F, but rural areas could see colder conditions.
The cold snap is forecasted to continue Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and highs approaching 48°F. While daytime temperatures will rise slightly, lows will again drop into the 20s. By Saturday, rain is expected to return, potentially impacting travel along I-40 and other local roadways.
The NWS advises residents to limit outdoor exposure and dress in layers to combat the cold. Drivers are reminded to check for icy patches, especially on secondary roads and bridges. Looking ahead, dangerously cold wind chills and another round of freezing weather are likely early next week.
