Melbourne, FL – A chilly morning with wind chills in the 30s and 40s greeted central Florida residents Wednesday, with temperatures struggling to reach the mid-60s later in the day. Hazardous conditions are also gripping the Atlantic coastline, with a high risk of rip currents prompting safety warnings.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the rip current risk remains high across all central Florida beaches through at least Thursday. Residents and visitors are strongly urged to avoid entering the water, as rough surf and powerful currents pose life-threatening dangers. Inland, boating conditions are hazardous due to winds of 15-20 mph and seas reaching up to 7 feet along the Gulf Stream.
The forecast for Thursday calls for continued cool, dry weather, with highs near 65°F and light winds from the north. Thursday night will bring partly cloudy skies and temperatures dipping into the upper 40s.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will warm slightly, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s, but a chance of showers arrives by Saturday afternoon. Sunday brings an increased likelihood of rain, with temperatures climbing to 77°F.
Beachgoers should heed warnings and check conditions at weather.gov/mlb before heading out. Boaters are advised to exercise extreme caution in these conditions.
