Raleigh, NC – A tornado watch is in effect until 1 p.m. EST for parts of North Carolina and South Carolina, including coastal areas and major inland cities, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

The watch covers several counties across North Carolina, including Wake, Mecklenburg, Durham, and Guilford, as well as coastal areas like Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. In South Carolina, the alert extends offshore, affecting waters from Surf City, NC, to Edisto Beach, SC.

According to meteorologists, conditions are favorable for tornado formation, along with severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and hail. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and seek shelter if a warning is issued.

The storm system is expected to move eastward throughout the day, with the highest risk of tornado activity in central and eastern North Carolina. Coastal waters are also under threat of hazardous conditions, including strong winds and rough seas.

Officials advise avoiding unnecessary travel, securing outdoor objects, and reviewing emergency plans. The tornado watch remains in effect until early afternoon, with updates expected as the situation develops.
