New York starts the morning under a blanket of dense fog as headlights glow along Route 17 and I-81. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile at times, and temperatures are sitting near 33 degrees in Binghamton. The air feels raw and damp, with wind chills in the upper 20s.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, patchy fog lingers through mid-morning before gradual clearing develops. Highs reach near 49 degrees today as clouds thin. However, rain chances ramp up again after 2 a.m., with a 40 percent chance of showers toward daybreak.

By Thursday afternoon, steadier rain moves in with an 80 percent chance of precipitation and highs near 47 degrees. Rain becomes widespread Thursday night, with temperatures holding near 38 degrees. At those readings, a brief rain-snow mix cannot be ruled out in higher elevations north of the city. Watch for slick bridges if temperatures dip close to freezing. This is prime time for flash freezing when wet pavement refreezes.

Friday brings scattered showers before 1 p.m. and a high near 48. Then a noticeable warm-up begins. Saturday turns milder with showers likely after 1 p.m. and highs surging to 66 degrees. Sunday dries out with sunshine and a high near 57.

Early next week trends even warmer. Highs climb into the 60s Monday and upper 60s Tuesday, hinting at early Spring Warmth across upstate New York.

Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. We gain evening daylight and move closer to consistent March mildness.

Five Day Outlook for Binghamton, New York:

Today: Patchy fog, then partly sunny. High 49.
Thursday: Rain likely after 1 p.m. High 47.
Friday: Chance of rain before 1 p.m. High 48.
Saturday: Showers likely after 1 p.m. High 66.
