Albany, NY – Snowfall across upstate New York has reached significant levels, with Schuyler reporting a record 52 inches, the highest in the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) cautions that icy roads and low visibility may persist into Tuesday, posing challenges for commuters and travelers.

According to the NWS, the snowfall totals, reported Sunday morning, show Salisbury Center received 37.5 inches, and areas like Lake Pleasant and Long Lake saw 10 inches or more. Snow has tapered off in most areas, but cold temperatures will keep roadways slick. Residents are urged to avoid nonessential travel and prepare for bitter wind chills as low as -1°F into Tuesday.

The extended forecast shows partly sunny skies and a high of 22°F Tuesday, with blustery northwest winds up to 30 mph. Wednesday will bring a high near 19°F with mostly sunny conditions, while Thursday warms slightly to 21°F. Nighttime lows will remain in the single digits to low teens through midweek.

Hamilton and Montgomery counties were also impacted, with 26 inches reported in Hoffmeister and 10 inches in Amsterdam. Snow removal crews are working diligently, but secondary roads may remain snow-covered.

Officials advise keeping emergency kits in vehicles, monitoring weather alerts, and dressing warmly if outdoors. Road conditions along key routes like I-90 and Route 28 may improve as crews continue plowing and salting.
