New York – Wet pavement glistens under streetlights, and light flakes swirl as early commuters step into a sharp winter bite. Snow and ice remain in play today, and colder air is lining up behind the storm, setting the stage for slick travel and a midweek deep freeze across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of southeast New York, northeast New Jersey, and southern Connecticut into early afternoon. Snow mixes with sleet at times, with additional accumulations pushing totals close to an inch in the city and higher amounts north and west. Winds may gust over 30 mph, lowering visibility and blowing snow across bridges and open roadways.

Across New York City, slushy conditions persist on untreated streets, especially in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. On Long Island and into Westchester, periods of freezing drizzle may briefly coat roads and sidewalks. Drivers should expect slowdowns on I-95, the Long Island Expressway, and major parkways as crews work to keep lanes passable.

As the system exits, arctic air surges in. Temperatures drop sharply tonight and stay locked in the teens and lower 20s through midweek. Any melting during daylight hours could refreeze quickly after sunset, increasing the risk of flash freezing and morning accidents.

By Wednesday and Thursday, skies brighten but the cold remains biting. Winds ease slightly, yet the chill lingers into Friday before a gradual moderation late week.

Five-Day Outlook for New York City, NY

• Today: Snow and wintry mix early, high near 32°F
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny and cold, high near 20°F
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 22°F
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, high near 21°F
• Friday: Sunny and cold, high near 19°F
