New York, NY – Much of the Northeast will bake under dangerous heat Tuesday afternoon as “feels-like” temperatures climb past 105°F, with the New York metro, Long Island, and southern Connecticut facing the most extreme conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat index will peak between noon and 8 p.m. Tuesday, topping 110°F in New York City, Newark, White Plains, and parts of Middlesex and Fairfield Counties. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for most of the region, with Heat Advisories extended to southeast Suffolk County and southern New London County in Connecticut.
New Haven, Danbury, Morristown, and Bridgeport could all register heat indices of 106°F or higher. On Long Island, Islip and Stony Brook will feel like 100°F to 102°F by late afternoon, while even coastal spots like Montauk may reach the mid-90s.
Officials urge residents to stay indoors, use air conditioning, and limit outdoor activity, especially for the elderly, young children, and those with chronic illnesses. Utilities may see strain, and localized power disruptions are possible.
While Wednesday will be slightly cooler, parts of the Hudson Valley and interior Connecticut may still hit 100°F. Additional alerts may follow if conditions persist.
