New Mexico — Wind pushes against doors and rattles signs this morning as strong gusts sweep across Albuquerque, already creating hazardous travel conditions across the metro.

According to the National Weather Service, east winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are impacting Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, Los Lunas, and Corrales through the late morning hours.

This is part of a broader system tightening pressure gradients across the Southwest, accelerating winds through the Middle Rio Grande Valley.

The strongest impacts are unfolding now through about 12 p.m., especially along I-25 and I-40 corridors where crosswinds can push vehicles out of lanes. High-profile vehicles face the greatest risk, particularly near open stretches and elevated ramps.

Blowing dust is developing in exposed areas south of Albuquerque and near construction zones, where visibility can drop quickly within minutes. Low-lying roads and desert edges may see brief but sudden visibility reductions.

Loose outdoor items may be tossed, and small tree limbs could snap under stronger gusts. Power flickers are possible where branches contact lines.

Drivers should slow down, keep both hands on the wheel, and avoid sudden lane changes. Secure outdoor furniture and trash bins immediately to prevent debris hazards.

Conditions gradually improve after midday as winds weaken into the afternoon, but breezy conditions may linger into early evening before calmer weather returns heading into the weekend.
