Amarillo, TX – A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near the New Mexico-Texas border on Sunday afternoon, sending tremors through the Amarillo area. The quake, centered just north of the Canadian River, was detected roughly 90 minutes away from Amarillo.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicenter was located northwest of Dalhart, TX, and east of the town of Clayton, NM. No major damage or injuries were immediately reported, but residents from Amarillo to Dumas reported feeling the tremors.

Local emergency services are monitoring the situation for any developing concerns. Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and to report any structural damage or hazardous conditions caused by the quake.
