Las Vegas, NV — A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Esmeralda and Central Nye County, as well as higher elevations of Death Valley National Park, starting this afternoon through 4 p.m. Monday. Heavy snow is expected to significantly impact travel in these regions.
According to the National Weather Service, Esmeralda and Central Nye County will see snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet and 2 to 5 inches above 4,500 feet. Similarly, elevations above 4,500 feet in Death Valley National Park, including Highway 190 near Towne Pass, could experience 2 to 5 inches of snow.
Travel on major routes, such as Highway 95 through Goldfield Summit and State Route 266 through Lida Summit, may be dangerous due to icy and snow-covered roads. Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, and check road conditions by calling 511 in Nevada or 1-800-427-7623 for California updates.
The warning remains in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Monday. Residents should prepare for disruptions and limit non-essential travel in affected areas.
