San Diego, CA – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains from 4 p.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service has predicted heavy snowfall and strong winds that may cause hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulation could reach 12 to 18 inches above 6,000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches expected above 5,000 feet, and 3 to 6 inches possible above 4,000 feet. Gusty winds reaching up to 50 mph are forecast for Saturday, potentially knocking down tree branches and worsening visibility.

Travel may become extremely difficult, especially on bridges and overpasses. The conditions are likely to impact the Monday morning commute. Officials advise delaying travel if possible. For those who must drive, ensure vehicles are winterized and equipped with an emergency kit including food, water, and a flashlight.

Residents are urged to monitor local road conditions by calling 511 and exercise caution on slick roads. Avoid sudden braking, maintain extra distance between vehicles, and allow additional travel time.

This storm marks a significant weather event for the region, bringing rare heavy snowfall to Southern California’s mountain communities.
