Nevada – Sunshine and calm air are holding steady this morning, but a fast-changing spring pattern is already lining up to bring rain, mountain snow, and cooler air into Reno by Tuesday, with travel impacts likely within 48 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions remain quiet through today and Monday, with highs reaching 73 degrees and light winds. That stretch of calm gives way quickly as a Pacific system moves inland, increasing moisture and dropping temperatures across western Nevada.

By Tuesday afternoon, rain becomes likely with a 70 percent chance of showers developing after 11 a.m. Roads across Reno, including I-80 and US-395, could turn slick during the afternoon commute as steady rain reduces visibility. Gusts remain light, but wet pavement will be the primary concern.

Tuesday night brings a sharper shift. Rain continues early, then mixes with snow as colder air filters in and snow levels fall from around 6,600 feet to near 5,300 feet. While major accumulation is not expected in the valley, higher elevations and passes could see light snow, creating slushy or briefly icy conditions.

By Wednesday morning, a lingering mix of rain and snow showers continues before tapering. Temperatures struggle into the mid-50s, a noticeable drop from early-week warmth. Drivers should watch for changing conditions, especially on elevated roadways where brief “flash freezing” can occur if temperatures dip near freezing.

Plan ahead now—check tires, allow extra stopping distance, and stay alert for rapid weather changes. Conditions may deteriorate quickly Tuesday evening.
