Omaha, Nebraska — Dry conditions are settling across eastern Nebraska to start May, with no rainfall expected through Monday and temperatures climbing from the upper 60s Saturday to near 80 degrees by Monday afternoon in Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont and Council Bluffs.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, precipitation chances remain near zero through the weekend before a slight 40 percent chance of showers develops Tuesday afternoon across eastern Nebraska.
This is part of a broader system favoring below-average rainfall across the central Plains through much of May, increasing the risk of prolonged dry ground conditions.
Dry air and warming temperatures may quickly dry out soil and vegetation, raising the risk of grass fires in open areas and along roadways, especially near I-80 and rural corridors where winds can spread flames. Reduced humidity may also create dusty conditions in fields and construction zones, briefly lowering visibility for drivers.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure equipment that could spark fires, while drivers should watch for sudden visibility drops in dusty areas.
The next potential impact window begins Tuesday between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., when the first chance of showers could bring brief slick spots to roadways.
