Omaha, NE – A significant warming trend is expected across eastern Nebraska this week as temperatures climb into the 90s before showers and thunderstorms return during the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will bring sunny skies and pleasant spring conditions across the Omaha metro area with highs near 81 degrees. Winds will remain relatively light through the afternoon while dry conditions continue across much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
Forecasters say temperatures continue rising Thursday with highs approaching 84 degrees. Breezy south winds could gust as high as 38 mph during the afternoon, creating elevated fire weather concerns in some areas.
Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the week with highs near 93 degrees under sunny skies. Warm overnight temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s will continue into the weekend as summerlike heat settles across the central Plains.
Thunderstorm chances begin increasing Saturday afternoon and evening as moisture returns northward into Nebraska. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible Saturday night through Sunday, with some storms capable of producing gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
More widespread rain and thunderstorm chances continue into early next week before slightly cooler temperatures return by Tuesday across the Omaha area.
