A 23-year-old man was shot early this morning outside his home on Smokey Hill Road after confronting car burglars who had broken into his vehicle.

According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred at 4:08 a.m. when the suspects, believed to be car burglars, initially attempted to pull on locked car doors. They briefly left, only to return a few minutes later. One of the burglars acted as a lookout while the other broke into the victim’s car.

The victim, along with his brother, confronted the burglars at which point gunfire was exchanged. The burglars fled the scene, though it remains unclear if they were hit by the gunfire. The victim was hospitalized and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the incident and are working to identify the suspects. Authorities also caution victims of auto burglaries not to confront suspects, especially when firearms are involved.

Anyone with information about the identity of the burglars is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
