Chicago, IL – A recall has been issued for four-count vine ripe tomatoes sold in several Midwest and Eastern states, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, due to potential salmonella contamination.

The tomatoes, packed by Ray & Mascari of Indianapolis, were sold through Gordon Food Service stores. The recall affects tomatoes packaged in plastic clamshells, each containing four tomatoes, labeled “VINE RIPE TOMATOES” with the lot numbers #RM250424 15250B or #RM250427 15250B.

The recall was initiated after concerns emerged regarding the potential for contamination with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA is urging consumers to discard the product if purchased. The recalled tomatoes were also distributed in Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Salmonella infection can be particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms commonly associated with salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, which typically appear six hours to six days after exposure.

Consumers who have purchased the affected tomatoes are advised to dispose of them immediately. Anyone who develops symptoms should contact Ray & Mascari at (317) 637-0234 to report their illness.
