Bourbonnais Resident Charged in Connection to Kankakee Shooting on April 30th

Bourbonnais, IL – A Bourbonnais resident has been charged in connection to a shooting that took place in Kankakee on April 30, 2025. Heavan Thompson, 22, was arrested alongside 18-year-old Sean Phillips in relation to the incident that occurred around 11:53 a.m. in the 200 block of South Rosewood Avenue.

According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and found evidence of a shooting upon arrival. Detectives immediately began reviewing surveillance footage and following up on leads. As a result, both Thompson and Phillips were identified as suspects in the case.

A search warrant was obtained for Thompson’s residence in Bourbonnais, and on May 6, 2025, both Thompson and Phillips were taken into custody without incident. Charges are currently pending as the case is under review by the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office.
