Mount Clemens, MI – A Mount Clemens man was arrested after deputies say a custody exchange dispute escalated into an alleged assault and shooting incident Friday night.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 8 p.m. Saturday, March 7 to the 100 block of Broadway Avenue in Mount Clemens for a reported domestic dispute during a child custody exchange.

Investigators say Daronta Williamson, 33, of Mount Clemens, allegedly escalated a verbal altercation with a 26-year-old woman into a physical assault. Authorities said Williamson allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened to shoot the victim before leaving the scene without completing the custody exchange.

Officials said Williamson later left the child at a family member’s home. The child was not injured and was reunited with the victim shortly afterward.

Around 8:52 p.m., deputies received another report that Williamson was near the 100 block of Michigan Avenue, where he allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times at two separate victims and into the air, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Good Samaritan later identified the suspect’s vehicle, which matched the description deputies were searching for. Authorities said Williamson eventually parked near Station 68, where deputies took him into custody without incident.

Investigators reported recovering a firearm with a magazine and ammunition from the vehicle.

Williamson was arraigned in 41B District Court in Clinton Township on multiple charges, including:

  • Two counts of assault with intent to murder, punishable by life in prison
  • Discharging a firearm at or in a building, a 10-year felony
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony
  • Four counts of felony firearm
  • Domestic violence

Bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety (10%), with a GPS tether and no contact order with the victims if released.

Williamson remains held at the Macomb County Jail.

The case remains under investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred in an area frequently traveled by commuters and students in downtown Mount Clemens.
