Pueblo, CO – A traffic stop along Interstate 25 led to the seizure of two kilos of suspected fentanyl from a vehicle traveling toward Pueblo, according to Colorado State Patrol.
According to Colorado State Patrol, a trooper conducted the traffic stop Wednesday, Aug. 5, on a vehicle traveling northbound on I-25 toward Pueblo. Authorities said the stop resulted in the discovery and seizure of two kilos of fentanyl.
Photos released by State Patrol show multiple wrapped packages and smaller bags containing white substances. Another image shows two wrapped packages inside what appears to be a bag.
State Patrol described the seizure as having a potentially significant “life-saving impact,” pointing to the dangers associated with illicit fentanyl and the agency’s ongoing efforts to intercept narcotics being transported through Colorado.
Authorities did not immediately provide the exact location of the traffic stop, the circumstances that led the trooper to search the vehicle or the estimated street value of the drugs.
State Patrol also did not identify the driver or announce specific criminal charges in its initial public statement. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The agency said drug interdiction is part of the daily work performed by its troopers, even though many seizures do not receive widespread public attention.
Interstate 25 is Colorado’s primary north-south highway, connecting the Pueblo area with Colorado Springs, Denver and communities across the Front Range.
