Kansas City, Missouri – Severe storms could move east of Kansas City this afternoon, posing a risk along the I-35 and I-49 corridors.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, a Marginal Risk for Severe Thunderstorms remains in place today for eastern Missouri and extreme eastern Kansas. Storm chances will shift eastward through the afternoon, with the highest risk for damaging winds and isolated hail expected east of I-35. While Kansas City may avoid the worst, residents should stay weather-aware through at least 5 p.m.

Widespread severe weather is unlikely this week, but summer heat and humidity will build ahead of the July 4th holiday. Highs will climb from the upper 80s Wednesday into the low 90s by Thursday. Sunshine dominates midweek, though patchy fog remains possible overnight.

Prepare for a hot, humid July 4th with afternoon storms likely after 1 p.m. Outdoor events may face disruptions as thunderstorm chances rise into the weekend. Friday and Saturday also bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, with 40% rain chances both days. Keep backup plans and monitor radar updates.
