St. Louis, Missouri – Drivers in eastern Missouri, especially near St. Louis, are waking up to dense fog Friday morning that’s cutting visibility to a quarter-mile or less along major highways like I-70 and I-44.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the thick fog developed overnight and is expected to linger through mid-morning. The most hazardous areas include corridors between St. Charles and downtown St. Louis, as well as stretches of I-44 near Eureka and Pacific.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time. Visibility is lowest near river valleys and open stretches of highway. This type of dense fog is common in early June when warm, humid air settles over cooler ground, but it still poses serious travel risks.

No widespread delays have been reported yet, but Missouri State Highway Patrol is monitoring conditions. If fog persists beyond 9 a.m., additional advisories may be issued.

Warnings remain in effect until visibility improves later this morning.
