St. Louis, Missouri – Strong thunderstorms are expected to hammer the St. Louis area by Wednesday afternoon, threatening travel and outdoor plans across the metro.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will increase across eastern Missouri late Wednesday morning, peaking between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.. Storm chances rise to 80%, with possible downpours, frequent lightning, and wind gusts up to 23 mph. Areas near I-64, I-44, and downtown St. Louis could see travel disruptions during the evening commute.

Localized flash flooding is possible in low-lying neighborhoods and along major roadways. Residents are advised to avoid driving through flooded intersections, charge mobile devices, and stay weather-aware as alerts may be issued.

Storms continue into Wednesday night, followed by additional chances for thunder Thursday morning. Rain remains in the forecast through Friday, with a brief break possible Saturday before spotty showers return Sunday.
