Davenport, Iowa – Scattered thunderstorms are moving into eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri this afternoon, with gusty winds and heavy downpours expected in spots through 6 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, most storms are expected to remain below severe levels, but isolated cells could bring wind gusts up to 45 mph, frequent lightning, and soaking rain that may flood low-lying roads and parking lots. A brief lull may occur this evening before more widespread storms develop later along a passing cold front.

Cities in the threat zone include Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Iowa City, and the Quad Cities. Parts of northwest Illinois near Rock Island and western portions of northeast Missouri, including Memphis, could also see pop-up storms. Localized flooding and wind damage are the primary concerns, especially during the late commute.

If thunder is heard, residents are urged to seek shelter indoors immediately. Drivers should watch for slick roads and potential ponding in urban areas. Charging devices and securing loose outdoor items is recommended ahead of any sudden gusts.

Storm chances may increase again later tonight, with additional advisories possible. Stay alert to updated warnings from the NWS through the evening.
