Jackson, Mississippi – Overnight thunderstorms could rattle central Mississippi into Monday morning, bringing damaging wind gusts and quarter-sized hail to cities along the I-20 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Level 2 (Slight) risk for severe storms covers much of central and western Mississippi from late Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday. A potential line of storms is expected to develop after midnight and push eastward, reaching the I-55 corridor by 4 a.m. and areas near Meridian by 10 a.m.

Strong winds are the main concern, especially in areas like Vicksburg, Jackson, and Brookhaven, where gusts could down trees or power lines. Hail up to one inch in diameter is also possible. Drivers are urged to avoid travel between 2 and 10 a.m. Monday due to low visibility and sudden wind gusts.

Residents should secure outdoor items and ensure weather alerts are enabled on their phones. The threat follows a weekend of scattered thunderstorms and marks the first organized severe weather event in the region this June.

Storms are expected to clear eastward by late Monday morning, but more alerts could be issued if conditions evolve overnight.
