Jackson, Mississippi – Northern Mississippi could face damaging storms Friday and Saturday nights as confidence grows in a multi-day severe weather threat. Residents from Greenville to Columbus should prepare for the possibility of hail, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Level 2 (Slight) risk has been issued for northern counties including Greenwood, Starkville, and Philadelphia. Southern areas like Jackson, Vicksburg, and Meridian remain under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk. Officials warn that timing and impact zones could shift as the system approaches.

Areas along I-55 and Highway 82 are most likely to see storm development after sunset Friday and again late Saturday. Power outages, downed trees, and travel delays are possible, especially where storms intensify overnight. Emergency managers urge residents to review shelter plans and ensure weather radios are charged.

This could be the first widespread severe event for the region in weeks. While details are still evolving, residents across central and northern Mississippi are advised to stay weather-aware.

More updates are expected as storm models refine. Severe weather watches may be issued late this week.
