Atlanta, Georgia – A stretch of afternoon thunderstorms will impact Georgia daily through Sunday, with the heaviest activity expected over the weekend as a frontal boundary sweeps through the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a weak low-pressure system off the South Atlantic coast is fueling widespread showers and storms, beginning Wednesday and lasting through at least Sunday evening. Thunderstorms will be most common in the afternoon and early evening hours, with rainfall increasing in coverage by Saturday.
Scattered storms are forecast Wednesday through Friday, especially in central Georgia cities like Macon and Warner Robins. By Saturday, heavier downpours and frequent lightning could affect metro Atlanta, Augusta, and Columbus, as numerous thunderstorms develop ahead of the front.
Drivers should remain alert for water-covered roads and poor visibility, particularly during evening commutes. Residents are advised to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and avoid outdoor plans during peak storm hours. Highs will range from the upper 80s to low 90s, with warm, muggy nights in the 60s and 70s.
Storm chances remain high into Sunday, with additional watches or advisories possible.
