New Orleans, LA – Severe thunderstorms are moving across Louisiana and Arkansas on Tuesday, bringing a risk of tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail to the Lower Mississippi Valley and the Southeast. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued warnings for strong storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 75 mph and possible tornadoes.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms are currently developing over central Louisiana and southern Arkansas as of 11 a.m. CST. These storms are expected to track eastward throughout the afternoon, affecting Mississippi, Alabama, and other parts of the Southeast into the evening.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay informed of changing conditions and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued. Local emergency management officials recommend securing outdoor objects, having a safety plan in place, and monitoring weather updates for potential evacuation notices.

Meanwhile, the southern High Plains, including parts of Texas and New Mexico, are under an extreme fire weather warning. The NWS reports that sustained winds over 30 mph, gusting between 50-55 mph, combined with dry conditions and low humidity, are creating ideal conditions for rapid wildfire spread. Areas such as the Rio Grande Valley and the Austin-San Antonio metro region are at heightened risk.

Authorities urge residents in fire-prone areas to avoid outdoor burning, secure flammable materials, and follow any evacuation orders if issued. Weather conditions are expected to persist through the evening, with additional updates available through local emergency channels.
